During my last visit to Walt Disney World, I was struck with the large amount of construction going on. People used to complain about how Disney supposedly wasn't investing money at WDW like Universal was doing.

I don't think you can say that anymore. As I drove around, I noticed a lot of construction projects, and we know more are coming. Can you recall a time in recent memory where there was so much construction going on?

    Here are a few:

    Parks

    - Star Wars Land (DHS)
    - Toy Story Land (DHS)
    - Pandora - The World of Avatar (DAK)
    - Miss Adventure Falls (Typhoon Lagoon)

    Resorts

    - Copper Creek Villas & Cabins (WL)
    - Coronado Springs Resort expansion
    - Caribbean Beach Resort (DVC & Dining)

    Infrastructure

    - Osceola Pkwy/World Dr interchange
    - Osceola Pkwy/Victory Way interchange
    - Magic Kingdom Entrance flyover (World Drive)
    - Epcot Center Drive (near I-5)
    - Gondolas (rumor)

Good point, Mike. I think most peoples' gripes are more about how LONG it takes for Disney to do a project.....

Yea gottu say I am excited for how the next few years look, I am a little worried about some of the projects not being as expansive as they could have been, and it does appear disney is set to make even more cutbacks in the near future (if the last investor call was any indication), but I hope they don't impact the developments underway.

Not on the list, though widely rumored, are major Changes to EPCOT coming down the pike.

And don't forget the questionable change from DisneyQuest to the NBA experience

Not a fan of all the construction. They should magically do it so that we don't notice.

Reminds me a bit of California. For years people complained that CA wasn't much of a park and wasn't seeing enough development. Leading up to DL's 50th, there was a ton of construction. When it was done, WDW regulars started complaining. WDW will be turning 50 in 2021, it's the East coast turn getting the Imagination.

We have made a substantial investment in money and time for future Disney Vacations. So count me as happy that Disney is continuing to make these large capital investments.

I would say though I don't count DVC builds as an Investment, they are just a money maker. All that land 40+ square miles was bought for 5m back in the late 60's. Every new DVC build must fill the coffers, and then guarantee near 100% occupancy and customers for 50 years. So I personally would not classify that as an investment for the guest experience. It's great for DVC owners though as it's yet another place to stay. Agree though Disney is finally investing, albeit they have had their hand forced by Universal. I think though the investment will really pay off. Id like to see more built and some of those old projects looked at again and perhaps a new park. I think they fear cannibalising visitors to current parks though. Another Eisner style 'Disney Decade' I'd like to see, maybe we are doing...

Granted someone else (new DVC Members) are footing the bill, the expansion of DVC at Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge, and presumably CBR adds value to existing DVC Members and hotel guests by giving them more options and helping fund improved amenities.

Yes totally agree with that and makes DVC ever more attractive. It's an infinitely better proposition now than it was when it was just OKW. And the ability to now visit the latest resorts is fantastic for myself and many others who bought with the intention of trying somewhere new every time if poss- makes for a different vacation each time and stops boredom (?!) Seeping in.

I hear people complain all the time about how busy the parks are and how expensive everything is. I just look at it from the perspective that the more money that Disney makes, the more they are inclined to invest that money back into the parks. I personally don't mind all the construction going on. It's just a reminder of all the great things to come. Even though I don't think I could ever get sick of staying at the BWV it is nice having the flexibility of changing up the experience with all the resort options!
